Annual Review 2024
Annual Review 2024
A year of growth, impact and community
2024 was a transformative year for IChemE and this can be seen across all areas of the Institution and the clear progress we have made. The points below summarise just a few highlights we want to celebrate:
- Membership growth and engagement: we are proud to report a 3.5% increase in overall membership and a 1% rise in member retention. A sustainable increase in student members, many joining through our free membership offer, signals a bright future. With 35% of our members now under 35, our support for early-career professionals continues to expand across all international territories. We also continue to focus on helping members to develop their technical and knowledge base through increased engagement with Special Interest Groups and the array of knowledge resources on offer.
- Enhancing member experience: we strengthened our member-facing teams in the UK and Australia, streamlined professional registration processes, and launched IChemE Connect, our new online community. Already, 20% of members engaged through vibrant groups like Women in Chem Eng and regional communities.
- Amplifying our voice: IChemE’s influence grew through an ever-increasing range of policy engagement and thought leadership activity. President, Mark Apsey led high-profile discussions on sustainability, while our Young Engineers Awards celebrated innovation and emerging talent across the world.
- Inspiring future engineers: our outreach programme, DiscoverChemEng, reached over 5,000 students and teachers. UK university applications to chemical engineering rose by 17%, including a 25% increase from girls.
- Looking ahead: with renewed energy in process safety, professional development, and global collaboration, IChemE is proud progress our diverse range of activities to position us at the heart of Engineering a Sustainable World.
