Russell Miles Scott: 2012–2013
Russell Scott was born in Melbourne, Australia in 1945 and obtained a Bachelor of Engineering (Chemical) degree from Monash University.
His career in industry began as a process engineer in the Technical Department of Altona Petrochemical Co Ltd in February 1969 and he remained there until he moved to Davy McKee Pacific Pty Ltd in August 1974 as a senior process engineer. A number of different roles within the organisation followed culminating in April 1989 when he was appointed Project Manager with responsibility for the engineering and procurement of a $300 m residue catalytic cracking unit at the Geelong Refinery for Shell Refining (Australia) Pty Ltd.
In October 1990 he moved to Kinhill Ltd/Kinhill Engineers Pty Ltd as their Director - Mining, Process & Industrial. During his seven years with the company he was responsible for achieving growth in their business in the mining and process industries, including entry into new markets in offshore oil and gas and major onshore pipelines through long-term alliances with specialist overseas companies. He negotiated an alliance agreement with United Water for the managing contractor role for the SA Water Environmental Improvement programme, fulfilling the role of Programme Director for the execution phase of the project; and co-chaired a Joint Venture with Connell Wagner which over a six year period provided services to National Rail Corporation for over $300 m of capital works including the Melbourne to Adelaide rail gauge standardisation project.
He spent a further two years as Director of Mining & Process at Brown & Root Engineering & Constructors Pty Ltd / Kinhill Pty Ltd before joining Uhde Shedden Australia Pty in October 1999, becoming Managing Director in June 2000. In January 2011 he was appointed Chief Executive Officer of Uhde's global oil and gas business line, responsible for developing and implementing strategies for growing the company's oil and gas business. From 2008 - 2011 he was also Managing Director of Uhde Asia Pacific Pty Ltd, responsible for all the Uhde companies operating in the Asia Pacific region out of offices in Australia, Thailand, China and Mexico.
He became a Fellow of IChemE in 2001 and is also a Fellow of the Institution of Engineers Australia and the Royal Australian Institute.
In 2008 Russell Scott was chair of the Board of IChemE in Australia and served as IChemE's International Vice President from 2009 - 2011 prior to taking on the Presidency of the organisation.
