Our Trustees are responsible for the strategic direction of IChemE. All top-level decisions are ratified by the Board. In addition, IChemE's annual budget and financial decisions are scrutinised and signed-off by the Trustees. Trustees have a joint responsibility to work together and drive the Institution forward. Mark Apsey
President
Mark is Senior Vice President for leading energy services company Ameresco in the UK. Mark has been actively involved in volunteering for IChemE since joining as an undergraduate.
Nigel Hirst
Immediate Past President
Nigel has been involved in process design and project management for many years, including responsibility for plant operations in the UK and Asia. His background in speciality chemicals, activated carbon and ion exchange resin manufacture equipped him well for his role in running a diverse group of companies.
Raffaella Ocone
Deputy President
Raffaella graduated in Chemical Engineering from the Università di Napoli, Italy and obtained her MA and PhD from Princeton University, US. She has held the Chair of Chemical Engineering at Heriot-Watt University, UK, since 1999.
David Edwards
Honorary Treasurer
David gained a BSc(Eng) in 1978 and in 1982 a PhD in chemical engineering from Imperial College London.
Joan Cordiner
Vice President - Learned Society
Joan moved to academia in 2020 from a 30+ year career in ICI, Astra Zeneca and Syngenta, latterly as a Technology Manager and Global Risk Manager for Manufacturing.
Alan Harper
Vice President (Qualifications)
Alan started in chemical engineering as Research Associate at Edinburgh moving to ICI as a process engineer, mainly on batch processes.
Andrea Hosey
Vice President - Member Engagement
Andrea has over thirty years' experience in process design and project delivery in the energy, chemicals and water market sectors throughout the UK, Australia and South East Asia (Thailand/Vietnam).
Paul McLaughlin
Ordinary Member
Paul has over twenty years of professional engineering experience. Much of this time has been spent working on high hazard chemical plants in Teesside, and in design and operations support to hydrogen and syngas plants around the world.
Tawana Muchatuta
Ordinary Regional Member – Rest of World seat
Tawana is pursuing an MBA at Imperial College London and an MSc in Renewable Energy at Loughborough University, where he earned his BEng (Hons) in Chemical Engineering.
Helen Ramsay
Ordinary Member
Helen has over twenty years of executive experience in engineering roles in steel manufacturing, water management and in senior leadership roles in the Life Sciences manufacturing sector.
Adriana Vargas-Colwill
Ordinary Member
Adriana is a Chartered Chemical Engineer with over ten years’ experience in the roles of process safety, process safety engineering and project management in the private and public sectors in the UK. She currently works as Senior Consultant for Offshore Wind Consultants (OWC) where she is responsible for managing projects in the renewables sector.
