Nii Darko Asante
Nii is an Energy Consultant with over 30 years’ experience in the energy sector. His broad expertise in the energy sector covers policy development and implementation, utility regulation, and energy management and optimisation. He was previously the Technical Director of the Energy Commission of Ghana, where he was responsible for the development and enforcement of regulations in the electricity, natural gas and renewable energy sectors, and execution of initiatives to promote renewable energy and the efficient use of energy. He also led the Energy Commission’s activities in coordinating the refinement and implementation of Ghana’s Action Plan in response to the UN initiative on Sustainable Energy for All (SE4ALL).
Nii previously lectured at the University of Ghana, where he was part of the team that set up the Engineering Faculty and acted as the first head of the Food Process Engineering Department. Prior to this he was the Technology Manager of the Energy Optimisation business of Aspen Technology Inc. based in the UK, where he developed tools and implemented solutions for Energy Management and Optimisation at refineries and petrochemical plants all over the world.
He is a Chartered Engineer with a BSc from the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology, in Ghana and Masters and PhD degrees from the University of Manchester.
