Searching for the right job
Starting the search for a job can be a daunting prospect. The information within these pages will help you get started – make sure you check out our practical advice on searching and applying for jobs, which contains advice on CV writing, interview tips, and job-hunting.
Here’s how your IChemE membership can help:
Accredited Company Training Schemes (ACTS)
ACTS are widely recognised, peer-reviewed, graduate training programmes which provide assurance that the training delivered by an organisation will equip a graduate trainee with the skills and competencies required to become a Chartered Chemical Engineer. All registered trainees who successfully complete the scheme meet the Stage 2 – Initial Professional Development (IPD) requirement for Chartered membership.

Member groups
As a member of IChemE you have access to the best resources for career information – your peers. Attend regional member group events to make new contacts, learn from those who may have started a new job and can offer tips and advice, or members with recruitment experience may be able to explain what they look for in a candidate.
Special interest groups
If you are interested in a particular sector of chemical engineering why not get involved with the appropriate special interest group (SIG)? Meet other engineers who work in your field and use these contacts to find out which companies are hoping to expand, who to send your CV to, and how to get into your chosen industry. As an IChemE member you can join as many SIGs as you like as part of your membership subscription.
Change your membership grade
If you have already graduated and have proof of your degree award (ie a certified copy of any qualification certificates), you should upgrade your membership.
IChemE Student Members are transferred to the Affiliate Member grade after graduation and receive their first year’s membership subscription for free. However, if you graduate with a chemical engineering degree accredited at B-Standard (bachelor’s level) or above by IChemE you can upgrade to Associate Member at no extra cost, allowing you the use of AMIChemE post-nominals on your CV and digital signatures.
