Andrew Legacy Scheme

The Andrew Legacy Scheme is funded from a bequest made to the Institution of Chemical Engineers by IChemE Fellow Professor Syd Andrew, a distinguished expert in the field of catalysis.

The Andrew Legacy supports researchers working in heterogeneous catalysis.

Heterogenous catalysis is a key field for the reduction of energy and resource demand for a myriad of chemical processes. The Andrew Legacy and the individuals supported by it are therefore supporting IChemE’s work on Responsible Production, one of its Priority Topics, and are positively contributing to IChemE’s commitments on climate change.

There are three parts to the scheme:

• Andrew Fellowship
• Catalysis Summer School Bursary
• Andrew Medal

Who was Syd Andrew?

Syd Andrew was a Fellow of IChemE and a distinguished expert in heterogenous catalysis. He had a long and successful career at Imperial Chemical Industries (ICI), UK and as an Industrial Professor at the University of Leeds, UK.

As part of his research at ICI, he was a leader in numerous technical fields and processes, including heterogenous catalysis, chemical reaction engineering, and mass transfer phenomena.

He was a long-standing member of IChemE and chaired its research committee for many years.
