How to achieve accreditation

Ready for IChemE accreditation? Our straightforward, flexible process ensures your graduate training scheme aligns with best practices. We’ll guide you every step of the way. Here is how:

1. Talk to us

Every company is unique, and we want to understand your specific needs. Contact our team on acts@icheme.org, and we will connect you with a Regional Engagement Manager to discuss how accreditation can work for you.

We’ll outline the process, including costs, answer any questions, and provide initial guidance on shaping your scheme to meet accreditation requirements.

2. Develop your application

Once you’re ready to apply, you'll need to prepare a submission that outlines your training scheme and how it supports graduate engineers on their journey towards Chartered Chemical Engineer (MIChemE) status.

IChemE will provide you resources to help. Your submission doesn’t need to be perfect from the start - this is a collaborative process, and we will help refine your scheme as needed.

3. Assessment and feedback

The assessment process includes 2 key stages:

Initial feedback from an ACTS assessor

Once you submit your application, an IChemE ACTS assessor volunteer - an experienced professional who has managed or reviewed multiple accredited schemes - will review your submission.

We only put forward applications for formal assessment who we believe are likely to meet the accreditation requirements at the formal accreditation visit.

Accreditation visit

When ready, we’ll arrange a mutually convenient on-site accreditation visit.

This is an opportunity to showcase your training scheme in practice and you will receive some initial feedback from assessors on the day, before the assessors complete a formal accreditation report.

4. Accreditation awarded!

If your scheme meets the criteria, you will be awarded IChemE accreditation by IChemE’s Professional Development Subcommittee, confirming that your training programme is structured, high-quality, supported, and aligned with Chartered status requirements.

You will also gain access to:

  • The ACTS community on IChemE Connect for networking and sharing best practices
  • Your dedicated IChemE account manager (Regional Engagement Manager) for ongoing support
  • Exclusive events to help you continuously improve your scheme
  • A social media digital badge and IChemE endorsement logo to showcase your IChemE accreditation to others
  • Your own webpage in the ‘Find an ACTS’ area of IChemE’s website, where chemical engineering students and graduates actively search for IChemE- accredited schemes
