Overview
As part of our ongoing commitment to support members working towards professional registration, we are hosting an in‑person workshop focused on the Competence and Commitment (C&C) requirements for Chartered status. Whether you are just beginning, currently preparing, or nearing submission of your C&C report, this workshop will help you strengthen and refine your application.
Running from 10:00 to 16:00, the session will cover all areas of the report competencies and the professional review interview. Attendees will benefit from discussion‑based activities, breakout sessions, and direct feedback from professional reviewers and IChemE staff. There will also be opportunities to work on drafting examples and evidence during the day.
This workshop is free for IChemE members, and refreshments and lunch will be provided. Places are limited, so we encourage early registration to secure your spot.

Owen Whitfield, Petrochemicals & Refining Professional
Owen is a chemical engineer with wide ranging experience in chemicals and related sectors gained over 34 years with BP. He held senior positions in: - technology development, commercialisation and licensing; manufacturing and technical support; project management and execution and health, safety and the environment. He is a Fellow of the IChemE and a C&C Report Assessor. He is a visiting Fellow at his alma mater, the Department of Chemical and Biological Engineering (CBE) at the University of Sheffield.
Sue Walker
After graduating from the University of Strathclyde in 1983, Sue spent the majority of her career in Oil and Gas. Initially Sue worked for ExxonMobil, commissioning and operating the Fife Ethylene Plant. Following a career break at home with small children, she returned to consultancy, also in Oil and Gas. When oil dropped to $10 a barrel, Oil and Gas consultancy work dried up, and she spent time working as a ‘process expert’ in the development of a new bank, Intelligent Finance.
In 2001, she returned to an operations role in BP’s Forties Pipeline System based at Grangemouth. Sue worked there (latterly with Ineos) until she retired in 2020.
Sue became a chartered engineer in 1989 and became a fellow in 2020.
