On Monday 21 September, IChemE paid a virtual courtesy visit to Tuan Haji Samsudin Miskon, Senior Vice President of PETRONAS Project Delivery and Technology (PD&T). This visit was arranged and facilitated by Ir Zainab Kayat, who is IChemE Malaysia’s Hon Treasurer as well as Senior Custodian of Design at PETRONAS GTA.

The IChemE delegation was led by Professor Law (Chair) and consisted of representatives from the IChemE Malaysia Board; Ir. Dr. Christina Phang (Immediate Past Chair), Ir. Rafil Elyas (Deputy Chair), Dr. Ragunath Bharath (Board member), and Professor Michael Cloke (Board member), as well as Peter Slane (Director Regions) and Steven Gasser (Associate Director Regions of IChemE).

Tuan Haji Samsudin Miskon was accompanied by his team; Azmi B A Rahman (Skill Advisor for SKG16), Annaliz B Abu Bakar (Head Group Technical Capability Management), Hozay Hafiz (Focal Point for ACTS), Sallehuddin B Jabar,(GTS Process Head), and Nurin Nadiah (SVP’s Office).

The objectives of this courtesy call were to introduce Tn Hj Samsudin to IChemE via a montage video and reports from IChemE Board members on IChemE Malaysia activities in Malaysia and explore areas for PETRONAS to leverage their ACTS accreditation.

PETRONAS is the first company in Malaysia to receive ACTS accreditation. Acquiring this accreditation demonstrates PETRONAS’s commitment in developing and sustaining their engineering capabilities by producing more professionally qualified personnel who attain chartered chemical engineers status. IChemE proposed to work together with PETRONAS to identify potential candidate for Chartered Chemical Engineers, delivering workshops and coaching sessions to facilitate a smooth path for the potential candidates in getting Chartered, and identifying training needs and course development to benefit the chemical engineers in PETRONAS.

Finally, both PETRONAS and IChemE Malaysia agreed to continue to work together for the betterment of the learned society and the nation.
