Overview

The Manchester Member Group is delighted to announce an exclusive technical site visit to the Daresbury laboratory, organised with the support of Ayo and colleagues at STFC.

This unique visit will provide members with behind-the-scenes access to some of the UK’s leading accelerator science and advanced engineering facilities at the world-renowned UK Research and Innovation⁠.

The visit will include guided tours of several specialist laboratories and engineering facilities, subject to final internal approvals, including:

  • UK Research and Innovation⁠ – including High-Luminosity LHC crab cryomodule assembly and advanced machine workshop facilities
  • UK Research and Innovation⁠ – featuring the Superconducting Radio Frequency (SuRF) Laboratory, SRF cavity testing, ISO-4 cleanroom facilities, helium cryoplant systems and the PIP-II cryomodule build programme
  • Vacuum Processing Laboratory
  • VISTA Laboratory – focused on future accelerator technologies, superconducting materials, photocathodes and advanced thin film research
  • Members will gain insight into major international collaborations and projects linked to organisations including home.cern⁠ and fnal.gov⁠, as well as the technologies helping shape the future of particle accelerators and high-performance scientific infrastructure

Due to strict site access requirements, all attendees and vehicles must be pre-registered ahead of the visit.
