Abasiofon Abbey Akpan
Abasiofon is the webmaster lead for National Early Careers Group UK & Ireland, where she manages the committee's digital communications strategy and coordinates the social media team to support early career chemical engineers across the region. She previously served as webmaster deputy on the NECG committee.
Abbey graduated with a BEng in chemical engineering from the University of Birmingham. As part of her studies, she completed a design project developing a concentrated solar power plant with an emphasis on efficiency and sustainability. She has since completed a postgraduate degree in mathematics and computer science at the University of Manchester and furthered her professional development through IChemE's Sustainable Process Integration and Energy from Waste courses.
During her internship as project energy engineer at Tekinologi, Abbey conducted hydrogen research and presented her work on "A Just Green Hydrogen Transition for Africa" at an international energy conference in Brazil. She has a strong passion for sustainable energy generation and is driven by the transition towards cleaner energy solutions that benefit both people and the planet.
Abbey is passionate about education and community engagement. She has volunteered as a youth worker at Unlock Northwich and continues to tutor STEM subjects at GCSE and A-Level, helping students build confidence and achieve their academic goals. She is a committed STEM Ambassador, encouraging the next generation of engineers and promoting diversity within the engineering profession.
She hopes her work with the NECG will engage and inspire early-career engineers and students to explore their engineering interests and contribute to sustainable solutions.
