Charlotte Todd
Charlotte is a current third year chemical engineering student at Swansea University, where she is a strong pillar of the student community. In 2024, she was awarded the Dr Anthony Knight’s Award for Contribution to Student Life and the Student Union’s Award for Best Event, for her work chairing Swansea’s Frank Morton 2024, the largest student led event for future chemical engineers. She also published an article in the Chemical Engineer Magazine on her experience organising the event. In the same academic year, she revived the dormant Chemical & Environmental Engineering Society and served as President. Alongside her studies she has partaken in the IChemE South Wales Member group and partakes in the chemical engineering department’s ExCite project brewing cider and stouts.
As part of her studies, Charlotte has completed a year industry placement at Valero’s Pembroke Refinery, in West Wales where she gained experience working in the process engineering department and in process safety management. For her report on this experience, she was awarded the Best in Class Performance for Chemical Engineering from the South Wales Institute of Engineers Educational Trust (SWIEET).
Outside of chemical engineering, Charlotte has a strong passion for giving back to the local community through volunteering and hosting fundraising events with Swansea’s Raising and Giving Society (RAG), where she is the current Events Officer. She also enjoys baking and is an avid paddleboarder, windsurfer and hiker.
