Dan is a post-doctoral researcher at the University of Birmingham have completed both his MEng and EngD there previously. He is driven by the desire to optimise engineering processes to find more sustainable solutions in industry.

Dan's research specialises in optimising process equipment to get better quality products and improve energy efficiency. He uses a combination of physical, digital and AI approaches to do this and his research has spanned across multiple industries. After an EngD that looked to optimise the grinding of cocoa liquor in partnership with Mondelez, he has transferred the sustainable plastics field, working with Aquapak Polymers to produce biopolymer products in a twin-screw extruder. As well as a passion for changing the world through sustainable process design, he is also driven to developing the next generation of engineers by regularly teaching at Birmingham and having also been a course ambassador.

Outside of work, Dan has been a champion for Frank Morton ever since he started University. Having attended four times, winning the pool competition on each of those occasions, he Chaired the organisation of the event in Birmingham in 2020. He now leads a steering board made up of former committee members to guide the current host university and ensure the event continues to run smoothly. He was also the Webmaster Lead on the NECG committee last year, has previously led and helped run several Outreach workshops in schools, and been a student ambassador at the University of Birmingham.
