Overview

This is a collaborative event with University of Sheffield, where you will hear from experts on their ideas and knowledge on networking across the chemical engineering sector. Delivered as a hybrid event both online and in-person.

This event explores how networking is crucial for chemical engineers and helps further your CPD.

This event will:

  • help understand how to network successfully, exploring different avenues of networking
  • highlight success stories or lessons learned on networking
  • highlight what networking skills are and how to develop them.

By attending you will gain tips and ideas that could be applied to your role/ business.

Join the committee afterwards for drinks (if attending in-person).

The main entrance to "The Diamond" building is open after 18:00. As such, attendees will need to use the main entrance.

There will also be some informal networking at a nearby venue (cafe/restaurant) after the event for anyone who is interested to join.

Speakers

Vince Pizzoni, Professor in Chemical and Environmental Engineering, University of Nottingham

Vince mentors and sponsors 1000s spanning the whole career lifecycle from school to university, executive and board level, and made it his mission in life to inspire future generations into STEM, Engineering, Tech, and Energy careers. Vince has 40+ years of relevant, global business experience incorporating executive management and board positions in blue chip companies including ExxonMobil, Suez, V. Ships, Nalco, and P&G. He won the prestigious Chairman’s Award as global General Manager of the year at Suez for outstanding performance, and recently the Davidson Medal 2024 from the Institute of Chemical Engineers (IChemE) for global leadership in mentoring, the TechWomen100 2024 Award for Gender Balance and the Men as Allies 2024 Award from the Women’s Engineering Society.

Vince is a Trustee/Non-Executive Board member and Ambassador for various organisations including Male Allies UK, the Women in Engineering Society, Female Leaders in STEM Subjects, POWERful Women and MyBigCareer. He is a Chartered Engineer and Fellow of several organisations including the IChemE, Energy Institute, Women’s Engineering Society, and the Chartered Management Institute.

Joan Cordiner, Professor in Process Engineering and External Engagement and Head of the School of Chemical Materials and Biological Engineering, University of Sheffield

Joan moved to Academia after 30+ years in the chemical industry where she got a wealth of experience in leadership, Active Ingredient process design, complex process modelling, physical property prediction, Formulation Engineering, Process Safety, Global Business Risk management and building relationships between academia and industry. She is an energetic and goal driven leader of large change projects both organizational and technical, with the ability to initiate and manage research programmes, develop and apply complex science to solve industrial problems. Her main research interests are Complex Process modelling mechanistic and machine learning across chemical, pharma, process safety including Hydrogen and mRNA vaccines.

Outside of her academic role, Joan is the Vice President and Fellow of IChemE, Fellow of the Royal Academy of Engineering, Fellow of the AIChE, and of the Royal Society of Edinburgh.
