Overview
Join us to gain insights into the performance of GenAI in education from both students' and academics' perspectives, exploring current trends in teaching and learning design and discussions on its impact on the industry. This talk will cover the key findings on the use of GenAI in education assessments, the benefits and pitfalls and the role GenAI has in engineering education and its implications in the future workforce.
Speakers
Peter Neal, Deputy Head of School, School of Chemical Engineering, UNSW Sydney Vice-President, Australasian Artificial Intelligence in Engineering Education Centre (AAIEEC)
Peter is a senior lecturer in process engineering and is a Scientia educator at UNSW. Peter has over 20 years’ experience in higher education. He specialises in engineering education focusing on inquiry and project-based learning, as well as overseeing curriculum design and quality. His research interests include engineering education and engineering economics and risk analysis.
Sarah Grundy, Senior Lecturer, School of Chemical Engineering, UNSW Sydney
Sarah is currently a senior lecturer in chemical engineering with over 15 years of experience in industry. She specialises in advanced materials, process engineering and design. Her research interests also include engineering education with a current focus on generative artificial intelligence, project-based learning and work-integrated learning. She is a member of the Australasian Artificial Intelligence in Engineering Education Centre (AAIEEC) leadership team and Senior Fellowship Higher Education Academy (SFHEA).
Marina Belkina, Senior Education Developer, Faculty of Engineering UNSW
Marina is a senior education developer at the Faculty of Engineering, UNSW. Marina has over 20 years of experience in higher education, with extensive expertise in multidisciplinary engineering teaching and in developing innovative and experiential solutions to support students’ learning experiences. She is an active collaborator and leader of multidisciplinary research groups focused on project-based learning, generative AI in engineering education, and widening participation. Belkina has received nine university, national, and international awards, including three awards from the Australian Association for Engineering Education, a Teacher of the Year Award, the Western Sydney Women in STEM Award, and a Community Medallion from the Australia Day Council.
