Overview
IChemE Northland Member Group invites members to a tour of the Ngawha geothermal power station owned and operated by Top Energy.
Ngawha Geothermal Power Station is located near Ngawha Springs in Northland, New Zealand. It harnesses geothermal energy from the Ngawha geothermal field. The power station has a total installed capacity of about 57 megawatts (MW) and consists of several generating units that convert heat from geothermal wells into electricity.
In addition to electricity generation, the geothermal field is also used for direct heating applications, including in nearby spa facilities and for agricultural heating. The Ngawha area is notable for its geothermal activity, and the power station plays a crucial role in promoting sustainable energy practices in the region while minimizing environmental impact. Overall, Ngawha represents an integral part of New Zealand's transition to renewable energy sources, providing a stable and sustainable power supply.
