Overview

Mark will discuss:

• process hazard studies in the nuclear context
• how chemical engineers can be useful in the nuclear industry
• the growth areas of process safety in the nuclear industry
• how process hazards are managed in the nuclear industry and the differences in the nuclear safety case
• experience in changing sector from oil and gas to process safety in nuclear.

Mark Shields, Principal Safety and Risk Consultant, Assystem Safety

Since graduating in 2007, Mark has worked across oil and gas process design, offshore and onshore, in pharmaceuticals, and the civil nuclear industry, and has specialised in process safety and nuclear safety case since 2020. Recently, he has been leading a major new capital project in the North East of England as lead process safety engineer. He will be presenting on the nuclear industry and the usefulness of chemical engineers, process engineers, and process safety in this grouping area.
