Derick obtained MEng (Hons) chemical engineering with environmental engineering from the University of Nottingham Malaysia.

He is currently a University Tutor at the University of Sheffield AMRC Training Centre and interested in the following areas: polymers related research and industrial work; development of science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) education; law and policies related to the management and governance of technology and innovation, intellectual property, and sustainable development.
