Overview
Critical Raw Materials (CRMs) such as lithium, cobalt, rare earth elements, and copper are essential to technologies driving the energy transition and digital economy. While policy and innovation agendas clearly identify the need for advanced recycling, separation, refining, and purification technologies, the key challenge now is engineering feasibility at scale.
This in-person workshop, organised by the IChemE Netherlands Members Group and AIChE Netherlands/Belgium Section in collaboration with The Netherlands Materials Observatory (TNO NMO), brings together engineers, applied researchers, and Dutch companies to examine real downstream challenges in CRM recovery and processing and to test where innovation priorities meet industrial reality.
What to expect:
- short challenge pitches from Dutch companies working on lithium refining, electronics recycling and metal recovery
- facilitated breakout discussions focused on unresolved engineering challenges
- a plenary Expert Reality Check panel with applied research, scale-up and operability experts.
This is a highly interactive, in-person workshop will focus on practical engineering challenges, not presentations or policy discussion.
