Volton Edwards
Volton Edwards holds a BSc degree in Chemical and Process Engineering from the University of the West Indies and an MBA from the University of Reading. He has over 25 years of experience in the Oil & Gas industry, working in Refining, Midstream and Upstream, and as a consultant in a wide range of activities including Process Operations, Engineering Design, Assurance, Process Safety and Risk Management.
Volton’s career in Oil & Gas began as a Process Engineer at the Petrotrin Refinery, supporting various process units. He later specialized in the area of Process Safety and Risk Management, working with Det Norske Veritas (DNV) and BHP Billiton. He has been employed at BP for the last 18 years, where he has held several senior Process Safety roles, including Process Safety Team Lead, Process Safety Technical Authority and Process Safety Advisor. For several years, Volton represented BP on the Technical & Operational Oversite Committee for Atlantic LNG and has been the Process Safety Subject Matter Expert on the assurance teams for numerous major project startups. He is also a trained and experienced Emergency Response Incident Commander.
Volton currently holds the position of Process Safety Advisor in BP’s Central Innovation and Engineering Team, where he provides technical leadership for Process Safety Engineering. His responsibilities include the development and implementation of Process Safety technical requirements, practices and tools to be used across the company. He also represents BP at industry standards committees. Volton is also a part-time Lecturer in the Department of Chemical Engineering at the University of the West Indies.
Volton is a Chartered Engineer and Fellow with the IChemE, a registered Professional Process Safety Engineer at the grade of Fellow with the IChemE and a Registered Engineer with the Board of Engineering of Trinidad and Tobago (BOETT).
