Overview

The Technical Training and Mentorship Committee of the IChemE Trinidad and Tobago Members Group (TTMG) intends to host a webinar on Layer of Protection Analysis (LOPA), presented by Volton Edwards. This webinar will provide an introduction to the purpose of Hazard and Operability (HAZOP) and LOPA studies, followed by a discussion around the key constituents of LOPA, the role of Safety Instrumented Systems (SIS), and how the application of the LOPA process can be used to determine if there are sufficient layers of protection against an accident scenario in the process industry.

Speaker

Volton Edwards, Process Safety Advisor at BPTT, IChemE TTMG Secretary.

Volton holds a BSc in Chemical and Process Engineering from the University of the West Indies and an MBA from the University of Reading. He has over 25 years of experience in the Oil & Gas industry, working in Refining, Midstream and Upstream, and as a consultant in a wide range of activities including Process Operations, Engineering Design, Assurance, Process Safety and Risk Management.

Mr. Edwards, an esteemed Fellow with the IChemE, currently holds the position of Process Safety Advisor in BP’s Central Innovation and Engineering Team, where he provides technical leadership for Process Safety Engineering. His responsibilities include the development and implementation of Process Safety technical requirements, practices and tools to be used across the company. He is also a part-time Lecturer in the Department of Chemical Engineering at the University of the West Indies.
