Overview
The Tyneside Member Group are delighted to present their 2024 Process Safety Forum, hosted at Newcastle University. This is a fantastic opportunity to join our experienced presenters covering a range of topics, and to network with your peers in your local region.
We have three presentations we hope you will enjoy:
- Functional Safety for Process Engineers, delivered by David Sparkes from Method Process Safety
- Hydrogen and Natural Gas Hazardous Area Zones delivered by Sarah Juliff from 6 Engineering
- Process Emissions: Environmental and Safety Consequences delivered by Ewart Cox from Assentech
The forum will be held from 13:00–17:00 GMT, with breaks and networking opportunities throughout the afternoon. Refreshments will be provided.

Speakers
David Sparkes, Technical Director, Method Process Safety Ltd
David Sparkes is Technical Director of Method Process Safety Ltd. He is an experienced Process Safety Engineer, as well as being a Fellow of the IChemE, registered Professional Process Safety Engineer and TÜV Functional Safety Professional. After graduating from Newcastle University, David worked on capital projects and control systems design, until a project to rebuild a chemical plant after an incident led him to pursue a career in process safety.
Sarah Juliff, 6 Engineering
Sarah has over 10 years experience in manufacturing as a process engineer before moving into safety engineering consultancy three years ago. She has undertaken several DSEAR and HAC projects involving hydrogen at research facilities and been the keynote speaker in a hydrogen event hosted by Teesside University in 2023.
Ewart Cox, Assentech
Ewart has 28 years experience in the tank venting industry. He founded Assentech 15 years ago with the focus on supplying and servicing equipment that fully meet international standards. He is a technical expert on the API2000 and ISO28300 Standards Committees and adviser to multiple regulatory bodies including the Environment Agency on best practice in tank vent management and maintenance.
