Ray has 40 years’ experience in the industrial gases industry. Mainly in cryogenic applications specifically distillation. He has worked extensively in research and development and has dealt with many unusual and novel challenges for example: specialist wind tunnels, critical (nuclear) piping networks, large scale water pumping ponds, cryogenic distillation columns and heat exchange systems.

His industrial practice was mostly with Air Products UK who specialise in cryogenic plant mainly for air separation and LNG applications and have constructed facilities in many parts of the world.

As a senior engineer at AP, he represented the company in its work with Harwell, Heat Transfer and Fluid Flow Services (HTFS) from its inception and particularly on the Compact Heat Exchanger panel. He also served as a heat transfer expert on the similar ISH-ESDU panel producing design guides for the industry.

Ray is now a consultant engineer (since 2009) and has covered a variety of topics including energy storage. His research at Imperial College, London has resulted in the award of a PhD degree (including Diploma of Imperial College - DIC). He is a Fellow of the Institution of Chemical Engineers (FIChemE), a Member of the Institute of Acoustics (MIOA) and a Chartered Engineer (CEng). He is also a STEMnet ambassador mostly attending careers’ events at schools and one of the judges at SE-Big Bang Fairs.
