Overview
Process simulation is commonly used through out the modern chemical engineering industry. Graduates need to be ready to use this technology correctly and effectively when they join the work force. In many cases, there is a disconnect between the simulation environment and all the fundamental engineering concepts, the process simulator is treated as an "Oracle", and is often misused.
The aim of this workshop is to demonstrate to lecturers/academicians how to incorporate concepts from fundamental undergraduate chemical engineering subjects (thermodynamics, transport, distillation, reactions) into the process modelling/simulation environment and consequently set up models, run them and interpret the results correctly. This will allow lecturers to better teach process simulation, which is generally a component of the senior level design course.
The event venue is sponsored by UCSI University.
Speakers
Ir Rafil Elyas, East One-Zero-One Sdn Bhd
Rafil is the founder; owner and principal consultant of East One-Zero-One Sdn Bhd (East101), a specialist consulting company focused providing advanced process engineering and flow assurance solutions to the oil and gas industry.
Rafil’s career spans over 25 years, starting at the Malaysian national oil company PETRONAS, followed by technical and managerial positions at Simulation Sciences (now Invensys) and Hyprotech (now acquired by AspenTech), and currently at East101. His areas of specialisation are compressor surge analysis, facility wide control strategy synthesis/optimisation, pressure protection systems/HIPPS design and flow assurance (integrated transient pipeline and facilities models).
