Gul held the Fluid Mixing Processes SIG Chairperson position from 2015 to 2020 and prior to that she was the SIG Secretary. During this time the SIG membership more than tripled, the presence of industrial contribution with the SIG Committee also increased with the aim to reflect the make-up of the SIG.

The group has maintained contacts with the NAMF (North American Mixing Forum) and the WP on Mixing of the EFCE. Gul represents the UK on the WP. In addition to holding several one-day events in collaboration with other SIGs, the Fluid Mixing Processes SIG also introduced webinars to interact with a wider audience; started disseminating news and updates more effectively via the dedicated website and LinkedIn group.

Prior to joining Loughborough University as a Senior Lecturer, Gül worked in industry for 20 years in R&D and consultancy (Senior Consultant at BHR Group). She holds a PhD from the University of Birmingham, DEA from Universite de Technologie de Compiegne and a degree in engineering (ENSIA and Hacettepe University).
