Dr Fotis Spyropoulos
Fotis is a Reader in Formulation Engineering at the School of Chemical Engineering of the University of Birmingham (UoB), UK. He has a first degree in Chemical Engineering from the University of Patras (Greece), an MSc in ‘Food Biotechnology’ from the University of Ulster (NI), and a PhD in Chemical Engineering from UoB. Fotis’ expertise is on the design, formation, characterisation and utilisation of emulsions, foams and soft solids, and his current research interests focus in the areas of Novel Emulsification Processes, Formulation Engineering of Emulsions and Soft Solids and Encapsulation and Release Technologies. His research activities have been supported through funding from EPSRC, Innovate UK (TSB), MRC, RSC, Wellcome Trust and a number of industries. He has published 74 peer-reviewed original articles/book chapters and his work has received a total of 2279 citations by 1765 documents from >75 countries. Fotis is currently a member of the Peer Review College of the EPSRC, a member of the editorial board for the Food and Bioproducts Processing (FBP) and the Journal of the Science of Food and Agriculture (JSFA) journals, a committee Member on IChemE’s Food and Drink Special Interest Group (SIG) and a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy.
