Undergraduate and postgraduate student prizes

What is the aim of the prize?

To encourage talented students and reward outstanding research or design project outputs that are relevant to the mining and minerals processing industry. The Mining and Minerals Special Interest Group invites entries for our undergraduate and postgraduate student prizes.

Who is it awarded to?

Applicants must be a member of IChemE. The undergraduate prize is for current undergraduate students and recent graduates. The postgraduate prize is for graduates and current postgraduate students.

How is the winner decided?

The assessors, made up of the special interest group committee, will award the undergraduate student prize for the best research or design project report by an individual or team. They will award the postgraduate student prize for the best project report, publication, dissertation or thesis by an individual. The project report, publication, dissertation or thesis can be related to work submitted as part of your degree studies.

What is the prize and how many are awarded?

There are two prizes: the undergraduate student prize and the postgraduate student prize. Each winner will be awarded GBP250 and up to GBP1000 to support attendance at suitable regional IChemE conference or event. In addition, the winners will be recognised on IChemE platforms and invited to present at a Mining and Minerals Special Interest Group webinar, and to attend a mentoring meeting. The prizes are sponsored by MKPro Engineering Pty Ltd (Australia).

How do I enter?

Deadline for submissions: Submissions open from 31 January 2025 to 15 July 2025.

To enter, complete the application form and email an executive summary (maximum 3,000 words, written in English) to specialinterestgroups@icheme.org.

In addition, you may send a pdf of the full project report (maximum 300 pages, written in English) to specialinterestgroups@icheme.org.
