Speakers

Jarrod Leak, CEO, Australian Alliance for Energy Productivity (A2EP)

Jarrod is the CEO of the Australian Alliance for Energy Productivity (A2EP), where he has been instrumental in driving the organisation’s efforts to enhance energy productivity across various sectors. With over 20 years of experience at Swedish engineering firm Alfa Laval before joining A2EP, Jarrod brought a wealth of industrial knowledge and leadership to his role. Under his guidance, A2EP has gained a reputation for developing valuable resources such as webinars, tools, and publications aimed at helping businesses and industries transition towards decarbonisation.

Specialising in renewable heating solutions, particularly heat pumps, Jarrod has played a key role in promoting sustainable energy practices throughout the commercial and industrial sectors. His leadership has positioned A2EP as a thought leader in the energy transition, providing practical solutions that reduce carbon emissions and also improve energy efficiency and productivity.

Robin Smith, Director of the Centre for Process Integration, University of Manchester

Robin is a prominent figure in chemical engineering, currently serving as the Director of the Centre for Process Integration at the University of Manchester. His work focuses on optimising energy systems and the design of sustainable processes in industries including petroleum, chemicals, pharmaceuticals, and food processing. With extensive experience in both academia and industry, Professor Smith co-founded two spin-out companies, Advanced Process Integration Limited and ProAIM Ltd., which offer consultancy and software services to improve industrial efficiency.

He has published extensively and is the author of the widely used textbook Chemical Process Design and Integration and, in 2023, Process Plant Design, a practical guide for students and practitioners of chemical engineering. A Fellow of both the Royal Academy of Engineering and the Institution of Chemical Engineers, Professor Smith has received numerous awards, including the Sargent Medal for his groundbreaking work in process integration. His research continues to drive innovation towards sustainability in chemical processes, focusing most recently on designing for net zero carbon emissions.
