Overview
This presentation examines the engineering design, integration and commercial deployment of a biomass pyrolysis system at Aumkar Palm Oil Mill.
The case study covers reactor selection, feedstock preparation (OPT and EFB), carbon yield optimisation, energy balance and process integration within an operating mill. It further explores measurement, reporting and verification (MRV) requirements for generating certified carbon removal credits (CORCs). Operational data, scale-up considerations and capital efficiency are discussed alongside the mill’s broader decarbonisation strategy, including biomethane and upcoming torrefaction for black pellet production.
The session highlights how engineering-led innovation can transform agricultural residues into scalable climate infrastructure with measurable ROI.
Speaker
Prashant Patel, Director, Agrotech Bioenergy Sdn Bhd
Prashant, owner of Aumkar Palm Oil Mill, is a technology enthusiast who continuously drives innovation to decarbonise mill operations. Combining engineering insight with strong commercial discipline, he enabled full repayment of Aumkar’s 2016 biogas investment within three years through diesel savings and palm kernel shell sales. He led a low-cost biomethane programme with 16 biomethane trucks and a 50km medium-voltage network supplying 24-hour electricity to staff housing. He also successfully implemented pyrolysis of OPT and EFB and is advancing torrefaction for black pellet production. He is highly goal-driven and motivated to push sustainable innovation forward.
