Overview
The annual general meeting of the Palm Oil Processing Special Interest Group (POPSIG) will cover the illustration of the important achievements attained in 2024, and outline the future prospect and planning of the POPSIG. It will also serve as a platform for two-way dialogue between the group chair/committees and the members.

Viknesh Andiappan, Chair, Palm Oil Processing Special Interest Group
Dr Viknesh Andiappan is the third chair of the Palm Oil Processing Special Interest Group (2024). He succeeded the role from Ir Dr Chong Mei Fong on 1 January 2024.
Besides, Dr Viknesh Andiappan also serves as the Associate Director of the School of Research at Swinburne University of Technology Sarawak Campus, where he does research and teaching. He leads the Sustainable and Clean Energy Research Cluster under the Centre of Sustainable Technologies. He is the author and lead editor a book titled Optimization for Energy Systems and Supply Chains: Fundamentals and Applications, published in 2022 by CRC Press.
His area of specialisation centres on developing process systems engineering tools to design and optimise net-zero energy systems and supply chains. He developed several computational methods to perform energy planning for greenhouse gas emission reduction. His work also aims to create software, techniques and algorithms to solve large-scale problems relevant to decarbonisation of the energy sector. Dr Andiappan is well-published and well-cited for a young researcher (over 100 publications with an h-index of 19) and presented several papers at various conferences.
Dr Andiappan has also won several accolades for his research. In 2022, he was awarded the Processes Journal Young Investigator Award and he entered the world's Top 2% of Scientists for a single year. Most recently, in 2023, he was awarded the National Outstanding Young Researcher award by EduCoop. On top of this, he was inducted into the I&EC Research Journal’s 2023 Class of Influential Researchers for the Asia and Pacific region.
