Particle Technology
Jonathan Seville
Jonathan Seville FREng is Professor of Formulation Engineering at the University of Birmingham, where he works on particle technology, fluid mechanics and materials recycling problems. In particular, he has pioneered the use of positron emission imaging methods in engineering and has a part-time appointment within the Positron Imaging Centre where he makes extensive use of Positron Emission Particle Tracking (PEPT), a powerful technique which was invented at Birmingham for following complex flow behavior in opaque systems.
He is the co-author of several books on particle technology including “Introduction to Particle Technology” (3rd edition; Rhodes and Seville, 2024) and “Particle Technology and Engineering” (Seville and Wu, 2016) and was formerly Editor-in-Chief of the journal “Powder Technology” (1996-2015). Before taking up his present post in 2017, Jonathan was Executive Dean of the Faculty of Engineering and Physical Sciences at the University of Surrey (2011-2016), Dean of Engineering at the University of Warwick (2008-11), and Head of Chemical Engineering at the University of Birmingham (1998-2008), where he established the UK’s first research center in Formulation Engineering (2001).
Jonathan is an honorary member of the IChemE Particle Technology Special Interest Group (PTSIG).
