Webinar: 3D Printing in the Pharmaceutical Industry
- Date From 7th December 2021
- Date To 7th December 2021
- Price Free of charge, open to all.
- Location Online: 15:00 GMT. Duration: 1 hour 15 minutes.
Overview
This session is intended to provide a forum to report on the latest advances in 3D printing and materials formulation for additive manufacturing within the context of biomedical applications, specifically towards the next generation of pharmaceuticals.
The webinar will provide an informal and interdisciplinary platform for researchers, practitioners and educators to present and discuss the most recent innovations, trends, and challenges in the fields of 3D printing applied to manufacturing and biomedical applications. Attendants will find out how we use 3D printing to develop personalised dosage forms and to develop fast, high throughput methods to discover new materials.
Speakers
Clive Roberts, Chair of Pharmaceutical Nanotechnology, Faculty of Science
Clive's current research is focussed on 3D printing of medicines, with major support from EPSRC, AstraZeenca and GSK amongst others. He was until recently Head of School of Pharmacy and will shortly become the Head of the School of Life Sciences at Nottingham University. He was founder of the Nottingham Nano and Microtechnology Centre and also a co-founder of Molecular Profiles Ltd a formulation and clinical trials CRO, now part of Catalent Inc.
Mohammed Maniruzzaman, Assistant Professor, University of Texas, Division of Molecular Pharmaceutics and Drug Delivery
Mohammed is an Assistant Professor in Pharmaceutics and Drug Delivery at the College of Pharmacy, The University of Texas (UT) at Austin where he also leads the newly established ‘Pharmaceutical Engineering and 3D Printing (PharmE3D)’ Lab. He obtained his PhD from the University of Greenwich, UK with no corrections (RDC/12/M-3/14, UoG) and two accompanying awards including the Vice Chancellor’s Award in 2013 for the outstanding performance in his doctoral research. Prior to his current appointment at UT Austin, Mohammed was a Lecturer (2017-2019) in Pharmaceutics and Drug Delivery at the University of Sussex, UK. His lab has received more than 19 prestigious awards and scholarships for the outstanding academic/scholarly work including the 2021 NIPTE Rising Star Scholarship Award, Texas Global FRSG 2021, Research Reboot 2021, IPEC Foundation Graduate Student Award 2021, 2021 NIPTE Outstanding Student Researcher Award, MDPI Pharmaceutics SI Best Paper Award 2020, Reseath4Impact 2020, and the STARs Award 2019.
Dr Maniruzzaman has extensive research experience in pharmaceutical engineering, advanced drug delivery, and additive manufacturing (e.g., 3D printing/bioprinting). This is reflected by authorship of more than 70 published papers (in ACS, Elsevier, RSC, and AAPS Q1 journals), 10 issued patents and patent applications, 3 books, 10 book chapters, and more than 40 conference presentations. The PharmE3D Lab led by Dr Maniruzzaman has invented various proprietary technologies which have been licensed to multiple pharmaceutical companies such as CoM3D Limited. He serves on the Editorial Board of multiple international peer-reviewed journals including AAPS PharmSciTech, Current Drug Delivery, Legume Science, and Heliyon. Dr Maniruzzaman has secured over $3.7 million research funding including one R01 grant from the NIH-FDA since joining UT Austin in 2019.
