Speakers

Mojtaba Ghadiri, Professor of Chemical Engineering, University of Leeds

Mojtaba is a Professor of Chemical Engineering at the University of Leeds since 2001 and, prior to that, he was the Professor of Particle Technology at the University of Surrey. He is a Fellow of the Royal Academy of Engineering, a Chartered Chemical Engineer and Fellow of the Institution of Chemical Engineers. Mojtaba has been awarded two prestigious medals for his contributions to Particle Technology: Geldart Medal of the Institution of Chemical Engineers, UK, in 2023 and KONA 2019 Award of Hosokawa Micron Foundation, Japan. Also in 2010 he was awarded the Iinoya Award from the Society of Powder Technology, Japan, for his international cooperation. Until recently he was a consultant of the International Fine Particle Research Institute (IFPRI).

Mojtaba’s research activities are focused on the link between bulk particulate solids behaviour and single particle properties with the aid of simulations by combined Discrete Element Method and Computational Fluid Dynamics. Application areas of interest are cohesive powder flow and fluidisation, size reduction (attrition and comminution) and enlargement, environmental effects, electrical phenomena in particulate systems, and powder spreading for Additive Manufacturing.

Magdalini Aroniada, Senior Scientist, GlaxoSmithKline

Magdalini is a Senior Scientist at GlaxoSmithKline (GSK), where she has been actively contributing to drug product manufacturing processes. With a background in Chemical Engineering, her expertise lies in system modelling and simulations, with proficiency in MATLAB & gPROMS. In their roles at GSK, they led modelling projects in oral solid dosage (OSD) and developed modelling solutions for OSD capabilities.

Prior to this, Magdalini served as a Quality Assurance Analyst at Nanopharm LTD, implementing cGMP and actively participating in internal audits. Her journey also includes roles as a Pharmaceutical Analyst and Research Associate, where she honed her skills in testing drug products and contributing to research infrastructure projects. Magkalini holds a Master's degree in Process Simulation, Optimization, and Control, where her research focused on estimating volumetric mass transfer coefficients. Throughout her career, she has been dedicated to designing and optimizing processes, as long as employing tools. She is passionate about the intersection of science, technology, and pharmaceuticals, continuously seeking innovative solutions to contribute to advancements in the field.
