Bruce graduated from Newcastle University's chemical engineering department, and joined ICI Engineering, where he developed novel powder technologies. Bruce moved into the field of biotechnology when he joined Zeneca, starting with the challenges of large scale 120te fermentation and purification for a range of specialty chemicals and food additives.

Bruce continued into pharmaceutical biotechnology at Avecia, leading the technology transfer of their first GMP manufacture, and going on to manage their manufacturing technology function. He now runs a process consultancy, helping clients to develop and improve their manufacturing processes. Bruce is a volunteer for the International Society of Pharmaceutical Engineers, being Past Chair of their UK Affiliate.
