Overview
The FOCUS‑1 is the first smart meter valve created specifically for the process industry 4.0, offering a flexible pathway to optimised flow, pressure and process control. Developed by FOCUS‑ON (a joint venture of SAMSON Controls Ltd and KROHNE Messtechnik GmbH), this multifunctional instrument combines sensors, an actuator and control capabilities into a single device.
By integrating all these components, installation is dramatically simplified - greatly reducing the number of flanges, cables and I/O points required and delivering savings of around 33% on CAPEX. Simultaneously, FOCUS-1 gives plants direct access to the industrial Internet of Things (IIoT) and Industry 4.0 ecosystems: it captures rich process-loop data (flow, pressure, temperature), enables predictive diagnostics, and supports real-time condition monitoring. With this enhanced visibility into the process loop, operations teams can detect anomalies, forecast performance issues and maintain higher uptime. Case studies show how the system has delivered better control, faster fault detection and more efficient plant operation.
