Industrial Edge is an open, ready-to-use edge computing platform consisting of applications, OT and IT connectivity, devices, and a central management system for each of these. It makes software and data handling scalable, secure, and easy to use on the factory floor. Industrial Edge simplifies the collection, processing, and analysis of data from industrial assets, enabling fast and reliable software roll-out on the factory floor and insightful decision-making, while keeping IT effort and costs at a reasonable level. And now, even virtual Programmable Logic Controllers (PLCs) can be downloaded as an Edge app.

Daniel Smalley, Business Manager, Siemens

Daniel is a Business Manager for Siemens Factory Automation Digitalisation and Program Manager for Xcelerator UK&I. He has responsibility for a software portfolio covering WinCC V7, WinCC Professional, WinCC Open Architecture, WinCC Unified, Energy Management Software, InsightsHub Applications, Industrial Edge, Industrial Artificial Intelligence and Virtual Commissioning. He is also the Digitalisation lead for the Factory Automation business focused on the market strategy for Industrial Edge, Digital Twins, Artificial Intelligence, Augmented Reality and the Future of Automation thought leadership.

Daniel has a BEng in Computers, Management and Electronics from the University of Salford. He is a Profibus Certified Engineer and a TUV certified Functional Safety Engineer plus a member of the IET.
