Charlotte Completed her Chemical engineering degree at the University of Pretoria in 2005, whereafter she worked as a plant support engineer at Sasol and interned at Sastech, building practical industry knowledge. She then completed an honours degree and master's degree at the University of Pretoria, specializing in chemical engineering and industrial wastewater treatment. She then joined the research team at the Centre for Bioprocess Engineering Research, University of Cape Town, working on the Wastewater Biorefinery project. She has since taken on the role of Learned Society Officer at IChemE.
