UKWIR – Trade Waste Management
AUGUST 2024 UKWIR provides a number of research papers. These are relevant across the water industry and include great information on a range of relevant topics and new research. This publication presents information on understanding contaminants that come in from trade customers and outlines potential source control and monitoring. As we move to improved measurement and monitoring of contaminants and reuse of treated water it becomes more important that we understand the key risk inputs from industry.
The role of nuclear energy in meeting climate change targets - NEA
OCTOBER 2023 This report produced by the Nuclear Energy Agency provides the latest analysis of how nuclear energy could and should be used to achieve the targets set out by the Paris Agreement for clean and affordable energy by 2030, with net-zero emissions by 2050. It forecasts contributions from power and non-power applications of nuclear technology, for example new builds of Generation III, hybrid energy and hydrogen systems.
Disruptive change to solar, wind, battery power systems
OCTOBER 2023 RethinkX's research report 'Rethinking Energy 2020-2030: 100% Solar, Wind, and Batteries is Just the Beginning' covers the future of energy.
Hydrogen Task Force
SEPTEMBER 2023 In the spirit of the Terra Carta’s objectives of creating sustainable industries, catalysing technology & innovation and specifically reducing emissions across industry, the Hydrogen Task Force seeks to drive growth in the demand for and supply of clean hydrogen through company and sectoral public commitments coupled with practical, demonstrable projects.
Hydrogen implementation – Mining
SEPTEMBER 2023 On this page, AngloAmerican look at the highlights from their annual reports for 2022 that showcase how they are transforming the very nature of mining for a safer, smarter, more sustainable future.
Nuclear co-generation course by IAEA
JULY 2022 Currently high natural gas prices in parallel with the need of decarbonising energy provision makes it necessary to explore different ways to better integrate energy systems. This course presents different applications for waste heat from nuclear reactors – including water desalinisation, H2 production and district heating. Possible plant layouts and examples of operating facilities are given. A very interesting, easy to follow, and free (upon registration to the IAEA learning platform) course and another example of how chemical engineering and associated disciplines can contribute to relieve the energy and climate crisis.
Nuclear energy and its role in climate change mitigation
JUNE 2022 The recently published OECD’s NEA report proposes different scenarios and analyses possible technology improvement to unleash the nuclear energy potential for decarbonising the global energy system.
Future of the energy landscape, demand source and addressing climate change
MAY 2022 Meeting the future energy demand of the world is fundamentally associated with current and conventional energy sources while transitioning to cleaner less carbon intensive energy sources will ultimately be needed. These links share future projections and plans by two companies, based on different scenarios that hold similar yet differing views on how we get there.
The gas and energy crisis in 2022 Europe
MAY 2022 The International Energy Agency has recently published a report analysing the situation in Europe and highlighting changes that should be made to energy system design to accomplish a reduced dependency on Russian gas imports. Actions include improving energy efficiency, speeding up the deployment of intermittent renewable energy sources and better energy storage as well as higher volumes of imported and processed LNG from other international suppliers. Find out more.
Biomass for low carbon energy
JANUARY 2022 Biomass is expected to play a key role in the decarbonisation of the energy system, both in terms of final energy uses but also for supply technologies. This link takes to you to a summary of current thinking in this area which includes a collection of 11 accompanying peer-reviewed papers.
Carbon capture, storage and utilisation
JANUARY 2022 These kinds of technologies enable the removal of CO2 from flue gases, when applied downstream from combustion devices (boiler or gas turbines), or can produce carbon-free fuels in the context of pre-combustion processes. This resource takes to you to a topic summary which includes a collection of 11 accompanying peer-reviewed papers. Find out more about these topics with three provided weblinks.
Hydrogen as a clean energy store and energy carrier
JANUARY 2022 Clean hydrogen is gaining momentum as an energy store and carrier especially for renewable energy generation. The hydrogen economy is developing at an unprecedented rate with the associated technology and its maturity gaining traction for the commercial application to support the worlds shift away from fossil fuels to renewable energy.
