Who can apply for Affiliate Membership?
Our Affiliate Members make hugely important contributions throughout their careers and are often:
- graduates with a non-accredited undergraduate degree in chemical engineering
- graduates (or postgraduate students) with a undergraduate degree in a subject other than chemical engineering
- working in, or with an interest in, the field of chemical and process engineering and related sectors
- university staff teaching or supporting elements of a chemical engineering curriculum, who are not chemical engineers themselves.

How do I apply for Affiliate Membership?
Before starting your application, please check you are eligible in the 'Who can apply for Affiliate Membership' section.
To apply for Affiliate Membership you must first register on our online application portal.
Once you have an application system account you will be able to apply for the Affiliate Member grade. When applying you will need to provide:
- your personal information and contact details
- employment details (if applicable)
- payment details (credit/debit card and PayPal*).

How much does Affiliate Membership cost for new members?
Our annual membership fees for new members are prorated each quarter. If you start your membership mid-year, your first payment will be adjusted based on the remaining months. For example, if you sign up in June, you’ll only pay for the remaining six months of the year.
The membership fees below are for July to September 2026, which covers your membership up to December 2026.
- Country Group 1: GBP 76.50
- Country Group 2: GBP 63.50
- Australia: GBP 76.50 +10% GST
- New Zealand: GBP 76.50 +15% GST
Upgrade from Student Membership:
- Country Group 1: GBP 64.50
- Country Group 2: GBP 51.50
- Australia: GBP 64.50 +10% GST
- New Zealand: GBP 64.50 +15% GST
Our membership bands align with the World Bank's 'country classifications by income level'. Those in Country Group 1 pay the standard rate for the relevant membership grade, members in Country Group 2 pay approximately 80% of the standard rate.
Is there a discount for postgraduate students?
If you are studying for a postgraduate degree, such as a PhD, EngD, MPhil, or a taught Master's, in a subject related to chemical engineering, you can get free IChemE membership.
You can apply for a reduced rate by submitting the reduced rate request form. Once we have received and processed your request, we will email you regarding your subscription. Please note that we may ask for evidence relating to your claim.

How much does Affiliate Membership cost to renew?
IChemE's subscription year runs from January to December with payment due on 1 January each year. View the current rates for existing members.
