Technician Member
Technician Member
Technician Member (TIChemE) is for those working in process engineering support roles across industry and academia. It provides evidence of your contribution to either the design/development, manufacture, (de)commissioning, operation or maintenance of products, equipment, processes or services, and your commitment to professional engineering values.
Technicians receive:
- peer-reviewed proof of their chemical engineering competence
- independent validation of their expertise via EngTech registration with Engineering Council
- enhanced status in the workplace
- a platform to work towards Incorporated Engineer (IEng) status.
Application process
Stage 1 - Educational Base
Stage 1 is the required underpinning knowledge and understanding. The requirement is either the completion of an IChemE approved apprenticeship, an approve qualification or the successful completion of an Individual Case Procedure (ICP).
Stage 2 - Initial Professional Development
Stage 2 assesses the experience required to develop competence. The requirement is either the successful completion of an IChemE approved apprenticeship, or a self-managed Initial Professional Development (IPD) assessment.
Candidates who have successfully completed an approved apprenticeship will automatically satisfy the IPD requirement, and can proceed directly to the Professional Review stage. They will only need to submit an “Approved Apprenticeship Completion form” signed by their Scheme Manager and Mentor.
Applicants who have not completed such a programme will need to complete an IPD assessment. The IPD assessment will check that you have the necessary experience, and will provide useful feedback to help with the preparation for Stage 3.
Some applicants will complete Stages 1 and 2 sequentially. However, there is no reason why you cannot undertake these in parallel (as with an apprenticeship) or in stages over the course of your career. You must, however, have completed and satisfied the requirements for Stages 1 and 2 before applying for Stage 3.
Stage 3 - Professional Review
Stage 3 assesses competence and commitment. The requirement is successful completion of IChemE's professional review, which includes a written submission and possibly an interview.
The written submission includes a Competence and Commitment (C&C) report, a CV and completed supporter/verification forms. You will only be asked to attend an interview if we require further information for the reviewers to complete their assessment.
Registrations
Technician Members also qualify for additional professional registrations. When making your application we will also assess you for Engineering Technician (EngTech) as the requirements are aligned with the grade requirements.
