IChemE invites early career members to submit entries to major scientific poster competition
18th September 2024
IChemE is encouraging early career researchers within its membership to submit their entry to one of the UK’s most prestigious scientific poster competitions.
STEM for BRITAIN was established in 1997 and is an annual exhibition organised by the Parliamentary and Scientific Committee. Its aim is to give members of parliament an insight into the outstanding work of early-career researchers based at UK universities, with applications invited from scientists, engineers, technologists, and mathematicians in one of five areas: biological and biomedical sciences, chemistry, engineering, physics, and mathematical sciences.
Prizes are awarded for the poster within each category that best communicates high-level science, engineering, or mathematics to non-experts. The Westminster Medal, which is awarded to the overall competition winner, is given in memory of the late Dr Eric Wharton, who worked tirelessly to establish STEM for BRITAIN as a regular event.
The deadline for entries is Monday 25 November at 23:59 GMT and winners will be announced at the Houses of Parliament on 11 March 2025. Visit the STEM for BRITAIN website for more information about eligibility criteria and how to submit a poster.
What is chemical engineering?
Chemical, biochemical and process engineering is the application of science, mathematics and economics in the process of turning raw materials into everyday, and more specialist, products. Professional chemical engineers design, construct and manage process operations all over the world. Energy, pharmaceuticals, food and drink, synthetic fibres and clean drinking water are just some of the industry sectors and products where chemical engineering plays a central role.
IChemE
The Institution of Chemical Engineers (IChemE) advances chemical engineering's contribution for the benefit of society. We facilitate the development of chemical engineering professionals and provide connections to a powerful network of around 30,000 members in more than 100 countries.
We support our members in applying their expertise and experience to make an influential contribution to solving major global challenges, and are the only organisation permitted to award Chartered Chemical Engineer status and Professional Process Safety Engineer registration.
