Andrea is a Chartered Chemical Engineer and Chartered Environmentalist who holds an Engineering Doctorate and a NEBOSH diploma in Occupational Health and Safety. Andrea began her career with the Industrial Gases company Air Products, working in process design then process plant fabrication and specialty gases. She then completed an industrially based Engineering Doctorate in collaboration with British Steel, working to understand the fluid dynamics related fundamentals behind improving the tinplating process. Since then, she worked for 19 years for Dow Corning at their high hazard, upper tier COMAH site in South Wales, commissioning a £17million pilot plant as part of a much larger expansion project and was eventually responsible for all aspects of supporting manufacturing operations on the plant from writing permits to training operators, updating DCS software and proposing and implementing process changes.

Andrea later moved to the site’s Environmental, Health and Safety Department, eventually as EHS Management Systems Specialist with a key focus on driving the management review processes for the site. She has experience of HAZOP, MoC, PTW, Operator training, PSM KPI development, COMAH safety report preparation, EUETS, regulatory compliance, risk register development, international corporate auditing, and all aspects of EHS Management Systems. Andrea is now a Responsible Care Executive at the Chemical Industries Association where she runs their national Process Safety and Sulphuric Acid Networks as well as the Midlands and West Yorkshire Responsible Care Cells. She also provides EHS Management Systems Support to companies separately through her own consultancy business ChemEng EHS.
