Helen Conlin
Helen is a Chartered Chemical Engineer, Fellow of IChemE and on the IChemE register of safety professionals. Helen volunteered for the Major Hazards Committee on behalf of the Safety and Loss Prevention Special Interest Group (S&LP SIG).
Helen’s research for UKHSE on safe staffing arrangements (CRR348/2001) was highly commended in the 2001 IChemE Safety Award and her TCE article on the research won the S&LP SIG 2000 Frank Lees medal. After over 25 years in industry and consultancy; in 2020 Helen joined the UK Environment Agency to work regulating the UK major hazard process sector.
Helen is Topic Editor (Human Factors and Management) of Process Safety and Environmental Protection Official Journal of the European Federation of Chemical Engineering: Part B. Helen specialises in understanding the combined contribution of technology, people, processes and systems to system performance and risk management.
She joined the S&LP SIG committee and volunteered for the Major Hazards Committee in order to continue to support IChemE Loss Prevention and major hazards activity. Helen has particular interest in:
- enabling chemical engineers to continue to provide loss prevention and major hazards leadership and expertise
- broadening and deepening the perception and understanding of loss prevention and major hazards and how they relate to chemical engineering
- developing and expanding relationships with loss prevention and major hazards professionals and other stakeholders.
