Overview

This extremely popular event is an ideal opportunity to network with colleagues involved in Scotland’s chemical and process industries and other local chemical engineers, entertain clients and reward key staff. The dinner also includes prizes for professional excellence awarded by the Aberdeen Member Group committee.

This year, we will be introducing music and a DJ to help let your hair down! Bring your dancing shoes if you wish.

This year’s awards will be particularly prestigious, with high-profile figures from the chemical engineering industry attending the dinner and presenting the awards.

The winners of each award will be decided by a subcommittee appointed by the Aberdeen Member Group, and those shortlisted will be advised in advance of the Annual Awards Dinner.

Speaker

Liam Kerr 

Liam is a Scottish Conservative and Unionist MSP elected to the Scottish Parliament on the North East list in May 2016 to represent the people of the North East Region. Liam served as Shadow Justice Secretary from 2017 to 2021 and as Deputy Leader of the Scottish Conservative & Unionist Party in 2019.

Following his successful re-election in 2021 Liam was appointed Shadow Cabinet Secretary for Net Zero, Energy & Transport before being appointed as Shadow Cabinet Secretary for Education and Skills. In addition to his Shadow Cabinet Secretary role, Liam has tackled a wide variety of issues both local and national and is dedicated to working for and speaking out on behalf of everyone in the North East. Outside Parliament, Liam worked as a sous-chef in Edinburgh before attending Edinburgh University, graduating with a degree in sociology.

Liam worked as a commission-based telecoms salesman and as a session musician in London before retraining as a lawyer. Liam moved to Aberdeen in 2004 to work as an employment lawyer. Since moving to Aberdeen, Liam has given lectures at RGU and Aberdeen University and acted as non-exec director of two prominent North-East charities. Outside work, Liam has given performances of both classical and jazz piano, races a Laser at Peterhead and plays squash at ASRC. He is married to an ASN teacher at an Aberdeen primary school, sails a small boat and is a keen cyclist. Liam is also a member and former chairman of the Aberdeen 100 Round Table and a former member of St Fittick’s Rotary Club.
