Overview

The webinar discusses guidelines for effective collaborative learning and teaching about sustainable design at master's level. Students are part of a domain teams, with a focus on technology, business or society. In a flipped classroom setting, with discussions and role plays, these student teams grow from elementary knowledge to experts. In the final phase, a group consisting of three domains merges their multidisciplinary knowledge into a final case solution. Systems thinking is the connecting factor.

Speaker

Gerald Jonker, Senior Lecturer, University of Groningen

The complexity of sustainable development is a common thread in Gerald Jonker's career: the combination of technology and application, with sustainability as a social and ecological precondition. His background in chemical technology has been expanded with experience in business and academia.

The book with Jan Harmsen (Engineering for Sustainability, Elsevier, 2012) is an anchor point in this, which has subsequently been further developed in system theory.

Gerald is head of the Engineering Systems and Design Group and program director of the Industrial Engineering and Management bachelor degree program at the University of Groningen, the Netherlands.
