Overview

Malaysian Palm Oil Board (MPOB) will host International Palm Oil Congress and Exhibition (PIPOC) 2023 in November 2023. The congress features four concurrent conferences covering upstream, midstream, downstream and value addition; processing, food safety and nutrition and global economics and marketing.

A keynote address will be delivered by distinguished expert in the palm oil industry. Four plenary lectures will be held in the afternoon of 7 November 2023. The lectures will cover various topics of interest in line with the theme of the congress.

POPSIG is proud to support the palm oil congress as one of the technical activities.

Objectives

• To discuss strategic R&D findings in all aspects of the oil palm and palm oil industry worldwide;
• To reveal recent technological findings that will improve the oil palm/palm oil industry; and
• To formulate strategies towards enhanced sustainability, competitiveness, automation and policies on trade, market trends and trade challenges.

Congress hall

Situated at the heart of Kuala Lumpur’s central business district, the Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre (KLCC) is the city’s most technologically advanced, purpose-built facility for international, regional and local conventions, trade shows, public exhibitions, entertainment and private functions.

Designed as a ‘city within a city’, KLCC offers a stimulating environment where one can work, live, shop, visit and enjoy life. Other components include a 25-ha park, the signature PETRONAS Twin Towers, the Asy’Syakirin Mosque, six-storey Suria KLCC shopping centre, PETROSAINS interactive science discovery centre. Galeri PETRONAS and the Dewan Filharmonik PETRONAS, home of the Malaysian Philharmonic Orchestra.

Exhibition

A trade exhibition will be held concurrently with the MPOB International Palm Oil Congress (PIPOC) 2023 from 7 to 9 November 2023. This has become the biggest avenue for networking and making contacts, therefore could attract new clients and decision-makers worldwide especially in the palm oil industry. In other words, it is the best platform in promoting products, equipment and services all at once.

Participation at PIPOC 2023 Exhibition will provide wide business opportunities in this highly competitive market by:

• Discussing all types of products with new and existing clients; Launching latest products and/or services;
• Gaining new contracts through networking;
• Meeting existing and potential working partners;

Congress dinner

An evening not to be missed: Participants are invited to attend the Congress Dinner on Tuesday, 7 November 2023, showcasing a live entertainment featuring the multicultural heritage of Malaysia. Participants may purchase extra tickets at RM280 (Malaysian) and USD80 (Non- Malaysian) per person for accompanying spouse and guest.

Technical tour

In conjunction with PIPOC 2023, technical tour will be held on Monday, 6 November 2023 to the selected destinations for its participants. The tours enable participants to experience and gain new knowledge in various aspects of oil palm industry in Malaysia. These are the options of PIPOC 2023 technical tour:

Plantation and mill

Malaysia is the world second largest producer of oil palm. Visit to the oil palm plantation is a must while you are in Malaysia. Visit a plantation and mill to gain close experiences in managing an oil palm estate and palm oil mill, and learn how to improve productivity and optimise resources. Participants can take this opportunity to gain knowledge and advice from experienced estate and mill managers.

1. Sime Darby Plantation, Carey Island, Selangor
   Sime Darby Plantation (SDP) located in Carey Island, Selangor one of the Company’s oil palm plantation areas in West Malaysia. One of the most attractive places is Palm Oil Experience Centre (POEC) which is designed to be an educational hub where visitors can learn more about palm oil as well as SDP’s complete value chain of operations from oil palm cultivation and processing to the production of palm oil products. It features a main gallery, a dedicated exhibition area showcasing SDP’s sustainability initiatives, a mini theatre, a Café (Caffé Alba) and a souvenir shop featuring products of SDP’s subsidiary, Sime Darby Oils. Besides that, the visitors will experience oil palm fruits harvesting.
2. Felda Tun Razak Agricultural Research and Development Centre (PPPTR), Jerantut, Pahang
   Felda Tun Razak Agricultural Research and Development Centre was officially opened in 1972. It was established to address the need for science-driven agricultural innovation to leverage on nature’s bounty to bring prosperity to the nation. The activities will be held such as visit the FGV Analytical Laboratory, visit Seed Production Laboratory and explanation of Best Agricultural Practice (GAP) for harvesting, integrated pest management and oil palm breeding programme.

MPOB research station

MPOB Kluang research station, Kluang, Johor was established in 1979. The size of this station is 841 hectares and 98% of it is being used for research activities. This station has the largest oil palm germplasma collection in the world. The species collection consists of Elaeis guineensis and Elaeis oleifera. During the visit, participants will visit MPOB world largest germplasm collection, breeding and agronomic activity, replanting activity, crop/ animal integration and many more.
