Hanson Medal
The Hanson Medal is awarded to the author or authors of the best article to appear in The Chemical Engineer magazine each year.
The medal is named after Carl Hanson, a professor of chemical engineering at the University of Bradford, renowned expert on solvent extraction, and a former chair of The Chemical Engineer’s editorial advisory board.
The Hanson Medal focuses on non-technical papers with the key criteria for the medal being ‘promoting chemical engineering and promoting discussion’. Staff writers and freelances are excluded from the award.
Suitable papers are shortlisted by the editor of The Chemical Engineer and assessed by the Publication Medals Committee, who recommend a winner to the Medals and Prizes Committee for approval.
The definition of the medal and criteria it will be judged against are deliberately left imprecise to enable those assessing to select and recommend on any basis they choose.
